Cancun convention center launches Tourism Club Meetings
With Cancun being the focus of both national and international conventions, the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau has created Tourism Club Meetings to promote strategies and projects.
With an increase in direct flights from key cities to the development of new hotels, Cancun has become a recognized destination for conventions. As a matter of fact, Cancun was recently awarded with the distinction of having the Best Convention and Visitor’s Bureau at the World Travel Awards in London earlier this month.
The newly established Tourism Club Meetings will consists of hotel representatives, airlines, private agencies, local businesses and other members of the tourism industry who will get together to discuss projects and strategies that will help further encourage the market for the area.
Jesús Almaguer Salazar, director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau says that, “The business of tourism represents a major part in our work plan for the next year.” He explains, “proof of this is the creation of the Club of Tourism Meetings which will begin in 2016. We are confident the meetings will result in positioning this destination and result in growth from 100 to 120 percent.”
Carlos Gosselin Maurel, president of the Association of Hotels for Cancun and Puerto Morelos, and Darío Flota Ocampo, director of Tourism Trust Promotion for the Riviera Maya both agree that Cancun does not currently have the infrastructure required to host group events or conventions larger than 4,000 people.
Cancun and the Riviera Maya are seen as preferred business destinations on a national and international scale.
