Cancun, Riviera Maya filling quickly for upcoming winter season
One season barely ends when another one starts being promoted, but that’s the way it is around here. Mexico travel agencies have already begun promoting winter holiday vacation pacakges to Cancun and the Riviera Maya.
Abelardo Vara Rivera, hotelier and member of the Advisory Council of the Association of Hotels in Cancun and Puerto Morelos (AHC) says, “The winter season is extraordinary. We are already getting a good volume of reservations considering that the next tourist season is still some months away.”
He said we live and work in a place where culture and natural beauty attract visitors from around the world. He added that the level of service experienced in the Riviera Maya is also some of the best in the world.
Travel agencies in cities that have direct flights to Cancun are offering huge winter season discount holiday packages, some with discounts up to 60 percent in four and five-star hotels. Some places are even offering stays of 199 peso per person for those who add excursions to archaeological sites.
“We expect a very good year end as American markets north and south reported higher growth for 2014,” said Francisco Lopez Reyes, director of tourism Benito Juarez.
US tourism is the greatest demand for our year-round destination, especially during the winter season.
“This year has exceeded expectations. We have very good occupancy rates and projections are on the rise,” said Laura Fernandez Pina, Secretary of Tourism in the state of Quintana Roo.
In December of last year, the Royalton Hotel opened two new properties. One is a segment for couples and the other is for families. The hotel is owned by Canadian operator Sunwing, who operates the airline of the same name. Since the opening of their hotels, Sunwing has lunched the seasonal weekly direct flights from Buffalo to Cancun. The new flights will begin January 16, 2016.
