Frida Kahlo Museum Playa del Carmen opens
Visitors to Playa del Carmen will now have another fantastic site to see with the opening of the new Frida Kahlo Museum.
The museum will open during the month of the 110th anniversary of the famous Mexican artist. Inside, visitors will discover a wonderful display of Frida Kahlo paintings as well as projections, interactive screens, muti-media and sensory experiences.
Conveniently located beside the established Frida Kahlo Restaurant on Fifth Avenue, the new Playa del Carmen museum is only the second dedicated solely to the artist herself. The first Frida Kahlo museum in located in Mexico City.
During the first stages, there will be an initial 14 paintings, however the plan is to have 150 paintings of her work on exhibit.
The new museum was already an investment of 20 million peso that was financed by the Frida Kahlo Foundation for Culture and the Arts. Alejandro Tamayo, president of the foundation explained, “We had several options as to where to open the museum. We also thought about Cancun, but after a market study it was decided that Riviera Maya, and in this case Playa del Carmen, would be the best option.”
The Frida Kahol Museum is located on 5th Ave. and Calle 8 in the city center. Opening hours will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. Monday to Sunday (7-days per week). The cost for entry is $15 USD, however, local Q.R. residents will get a 50 percent discount with identification, while nationals can get a 10 percent discount.
