Playa del Carmen Planatario: It’s all about science
Article by Chavez Pascal Mertens
Especially as a child it is confusing to take a look into the night sky. There are so many little lights that illuminate everything above us and draw pictures. To understand the basics concerning what is going on around us, and to learn about a lot of different fields of science, Playa del Carmen’s Planetario Sayab can help.
For example it is possible to watch the constellations through the two telescops of Sayab’s observatory. The telescopes have a special filter, to see the stars eventhough the sun is shining. This activity can be done from tuesday to friday at 12,3 and 4 p.m. and from saturday to sunday at 12 and 4 p.m.
One of the other highlights would be the virtual reality experience that they are offering. Virtual Reality in this case means that you will put on special glasses, that will create the impression that you are inside the fotos and videos they are showing. This effect is being increased by making it able for you to look around through moving your head. Those courses can be visited from tuesday to friday at 12, 3 and 4.30 p.m., as well as Satuday and Sunday at 12.30, 2.30, 4 and 5.30 p.m.
Besides those courses it is also possible to check out their small library that includes books in different languages and computers to research and read. Furthermore they have their own area to experience the use of microscopes with samples of hairs, blood, moskitos and plants.
The buildings center is designed like a cenote and outfitted with look alike stalagmites, bats and caves. The constructors didn’t just do it because of the aesthetic appeal but also because it provides a hint concerning the existing museum of cenotes that they have. There you can learn a lot about their history.
There are actually a lot of different things you could do at Sayab and a visit guarantees to be an educacional experience that can bring a lot of fun. In their repertoire are other workshops as well but they are too many to write down all of them.
The prices depend on what you want to do, if you are an adult and whether you are a national or a visitor. The prices general start at 15 pesos and go up to 150 pesos
For parents who don’t want to participate and for people who need a break in between, there is also a cafe called Yaakun that serves different things like coffee and tea for 25 pesos or quesadillas for 40 pesos.
