Real Estate Agents and Licensing in Quintana Roo

Posted By on July 21, 2017

In March of 2015, the government of Mexico announced new laws were being put into place for those wishing to deal real estate in Quintana Roo. This state has one of the highest real estate figures in the country, being on the list as a popular vacation destination and affordable place to live.

With that said, the laws were put into place at the beginning of 2016 for the state of Quintana Roo and still stand, yet, thousands of people continue to sell real estate without the proper accreditation. More than half of the states in Mexico are governed by the same laws and require agents to have the proper accreditation.

Real estate accreditation for all states in Mexico is granted by A.M.P.I. – Asociacion Mexicana De Profesionales Inmobiliarios. AMPI plays a key role in the real estate industry in Playa del Carmen, working closely with local, state and national governments.

Once an agent has been accredited with the completion of at least 100 hours of classroom time and training, licensed agents are then given a registered number and identification card by SEDUVI, the governing government body of A.M.P.I., something very few foreigners know.

For this reason, it is imperative for anyone considering a real estate purchase to deal only with licensed Mexico real estate agents, which you can find here on SEDUVI website. This is the most recent list of licensed agents and companies legally allowed to buy and sell real estate in Quintana Roo.

The accreditation is a document granted by the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing of the State, to individuals or corporations, to legally provide real estate services in the state of Quintana Roo.

Sudvi explains, “The registration and accreditation of real estate advisers of the state of Quintana Roo is created with the objective of transparency of the real estate activity. Licensed agents are provided with government issued identification that proves their accreditation. The process also includes maintaining and monitoring of Real Estate Consultants in the State of Quintana Roo.”

AREA Advanced Real Estate Advisors is one such licensed company, having the necessary accreditation to legally buy and sell real estate in Mexico.
