Riviera Maya Takes Four of the top 10 Best Hotel Resorts in Mexico
With more than 20 million international visitors to the Cancun airport in 2015, keeping up with the demands of that many people can be challenging to say the least. Luxury hotels with posh spas and world-class restaurants are popping up all along the country’s coast, but nowhere more so than the Riviera Maya.
What is quickly becoming known as the land of luxury, the Riviera Maya remains affordable yet highly competitive as the demand for tourism continues. Worldwide brands with world-class facilities build beaming glass sea-facing structures promising to be bigger and better than those that already exist.
Regardless of how much bigger and better each new project promises to be, what counts are customer reviews. Travel and Leisure has released the results for the 10 best hotel resorts in Mexico for 2016 and — surprise — four of them just happen to be in the Riviera Maya.
One of them is Mahekal Beach Resort, Playa del Carmen, which came in ninth place.
Another luxury resort hotel in the Riviera Maya that placed within the top 10 list was Grand Velas Riviera Maya in eighth place.
Zamas Hotel in Tulum took third in Mexico’s Best Resort Hotels category for 2016.
In first place with a score of 96.39, Rosewood Mayakoba in Playa del Carmen takes the number one spot for being the best resort hotel in all of Mexico for 2016.
Rosewood Mayakoba is known for its utterly tranquil atmosphere, top-notch spa, and personal butlers, but what many T+L voters said sets this hotel apart is the warmth and kindness of its staff. Book one of the 19 suites tucked between mangroves and suspended over a freshwater lagoon, which offer guests total seclusion. Of course, excellent cuisine (think: tapas-style dishes on an outdoor terrace), and thoughtful amenities like stargazing decks certainly help transport readers to paradise. T+L
